Our oatmeal in our oatmeal bath powder is finely ground. When our
oatmeal powder is mixed with water it forms a milky dispersion, with minimal oatmeal particles, which, after bathing,
leaves a film on the skin. This has three major benefits for treating eczema or chicken pox.
- Colloidal Oatmeal has an anti-itch action that eliminates the sensation of itch and reduces scratching.
- Colloidal Oatmeal has a buffering action, which restores the normal pH balance to the skin (pH 5-6) - it restores the
acid mantle of the skin. Dry skin and eczema skin is usually mildly alkaline.
- Oatmeal has a cleansing action by absorbing and removing grime from the skin and so avoids the use of harsh alkaline soaps.
Anti-inflammatory and Cleansing
When Colloidal Oatmeal is dispersed in water, it has a pH of 6-7, which matches that of human skin. This protects and preserves
the ‘acid mantle’ of the skin, which prevents bacterial and fungal infection.
When the skin is inflamed or itchy, it may have a pH of 7-8. Because of its buffering ability, Colloidal Oatmeal reduces
this pH to normal physiological levels, namely pH 6-7 and thus ‘cools’ the inflamed skin and eliminates the itch.
Oatmeal has a cleansing action. The particles have a huge surface area, which absorb dirt and grime from the skin leaving
it clean and neutral. This helps avoid the use of alkaline soaps, which strip the natural oils from the skin leaving it dry
and itchy.
